WebTerm X and X Windows

WebTerm X Demonstration - XDMCP Connection

Click to start an XDM broadcast to hosts on your local network subnet, This is over XDMCP on YOUR Network, not over Secure Shell.

What you are looking at
When you click the button, WebTerm X performs a local broadcast and shows you all of the local hosts available to you. Select one, and it starts in the way the host configuration files dictate: One or more individual applications start, or an entire desktop session starts. All of these applications and sessions run outside the Web browser as detached windows.

If any of the applications require you to click on the "root window", you'll see a root task bar on the Windows desktop. Left or right click on this graphical task bar (depending on the X client) to see the application's root pop-up menu.

The benefits for your organization
This example shows one way to use XDM in the WebTerm X environment. If your users already have a environment set up that starts a specific set of applications or a specific X Windows desktop environment (like KDE or Gnome), you can centrally configure Web pages that allow them to use these X Windows applications.

With XDM and the WebTerm X Administrator, you can also embed an XDM login window in the Web page, launch a single X client application, or choose various ways to launch X Windows using specific host names, broadcasts, and indirect hosts.

The final stop on the tour
The conclusion of this tour. You'll see a picture of the WebTerm X Administrator as well as read the wrap up of the features and benefits of the WebTerm X.
