What you are looking at
What you see above starts out as a button in the Web page. This lets a
user start the X application when they want to use it. The result can be
an embedded window or a detached window.
The benefits for your
organization Detached windows keep the advantage of central
administration, but allow the user to resize and otherwise control the
application window(s). Also, with the WebTerm X Administrator, you could
set up the configuration that used a remote window manager, like mwm or
twm to manage the detached window. (In this example, we let Windows do the
window management).
In cases where the size of the X Window is
unpredictable or the user must be able to resize, you'd choose a detached
window for them. Detached windows can be launched from a Web page and even
if the Web browser is closed the X client application can continue to run.
The next stop on the tour
requires that local hosts have an XDM listener running and be configured
for XDM broadcast.
