1. Overview
TunnelMate seamlessly integrates SSH (Secure Shell) communications with eXodus 8.0 on Mac OS X computers. TunnelMate has fundamental differences from other SSH clients because of its seamlessness. The primary design goal of TunnelMate is to provide "full-service" SSH without requiring users to run a separate shell application, as is necessary in other SSH solutions.
TunnelMate provides all of the necessary SSH services required by eXodus, but never forces the user to deal with a second application or worry about the integration between the two applications. It is automatically started when eXodus launches an X application configured with the SSH option, and automatically stops running when eXodus quits. The underlying complexities of SSH and the tunneling of X client connections remain transparent to the eXodus user.
2. SSH Specifications
TunnelMate 1.2 is based on OpenSSH, version 3.5.
TunnelMate requires the SSL libcrypto library that is installed with Mac OS X (version 10.1 or later).
TunnelMate 1.2 is compatible with host SSH daemons (sshd) based on either SSH protocol version 1 or 2.
3. Installation
You can install TunnelMate on any Macintosh with Mac OS X 10.1 or higher. eXodus 8.0 (or later) must be installed prior to installing TunnelMate. Double click the TunnelMate Installer and follow the on-screen instructions.
The TunnelMate software is installed in the eXodus 8.0 folder.
4. Usage
Once installed, you will not need to deal directly with TunnelMate; it is "driven" by eXodus. Instructions for configuring eXodus to use SSH in conjunction with X connections are provided in the eXodus 8.0 manual. The TunnelMate application is active while X connections are being "tunneled" through it. While the application typically remains in a background state (with no windows open), you can access connection status information by clicking the TunnelMate icon in the Mac OS X dock.
TunnelMate provides secure communications to remote hosts. All data and passwords are encrypted. The TunnelMate SSH client transparently logs onto a remote host and executes commands on the host.
5. Problems Resolved: TunnelMate 1.2
A problem that required a separate download and installation of the ssh_prng_cmds file has been corrected.
