Support - WebTerm X - Changing color settings

WebTerm X Frequently Asked Questions

How do I change the color settings for WebTerm X version 4.0?

WebTerm X reports the color depth characteristics (8-bit, 16-bit, or 32-bit color) of the user's PC to the X client application running on the host.  That means that it is possible that an X client application will appear differently on the Administrator's PC configuration than on a user's PC.

Applications with demanding color needs or poorly coded applications may appear radically different, or even refuse to run on a PC that has a different type of color than the X applications expect.  Well designed applications and applications whose color needs are not demanding will probably not be visibly different with different PC environments.

Try the X client applications you are setting up in a variety of color modes to see how the applications behave.  Select different color depths from the Screen Depth pop-up on the Session tab.  The Screen Depth setting determines what screen color depth WebTerm X reports back to the X client application.  the default "Same as Monitor" setting means WebTerm X reports the current setting of your PC Display.

If the WebTerm X Power Plug-in is running (you will see a tiny WebTerm X icon on the task bar tray), launching a connection with a different color depth may cause the Power Plug-in to display the Reset WebTerm X dialog.  Clicking OK on the dialog will close all active connections and restart the Power Plug-in with a new screen depth.

Please note:  The Screen Depth option requires the installation of DirectX 5.0 or greater and is therefore not available on NT 4.0 PC's (which use DirectX 3.0).  To try different color settings on a NT 4.0 PC, change the color setting of your PC display.  If the WebTerm X Power Plug-in is running, you will need to close it and re-launch the X client application to use the new display setting.

To close the WebTerm X background application, right-click on the WebTerm X icon in the task bar tray and choose Close.
