WebTerm X Frequently Asked Questions
What ports need to be open in a firewall to use WebTerm X?
- UDP port 177 for XDM
- TCP port 512 for REXEC
- TCP port 514 for RSH
- TCP port 23 for Telnet
- TCP port 6000 for X11
- TCP Port 7000 for font servers
Please note: All three ports for XDM, REXEC, and RSH don to have to be enabled unless they need to provided for access to all three. XDM is less of a security concern because each character of username and password go out onto the net inside separate (X protocol) packets. REXEC and RSH protocols put complete login information (host, username, and password) neatly and contiguously into a plain text TCP stream.
