Support - WebTerm X - setting MIME types

WebTerm X Frequently Asked Questions

How do I set up the MIME type on the web server?

Usually the MIME type configuration file will be one of the web servers directories.  Use your web server's facilities to configure the mapping between the WebTerm X MIME type and the .wts file extensions:

MIME type:  application/x-webtermx

Extensions: .wtx .WTX wtx WTX

If the MIME type is not configured on the server, the user's WebTerm Power Plug-in file will not load the .wtx configuration files on their browser.

Instructions for setting the MIME type on specific web servers:

Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) version 3.0:

  1. Run 'regedit' from the start menu.
  2. Select HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and open \SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\InetInfo\Parameters\MimeMap.
  3. Right click the right panel and select new/string value.
  4. Enter "application/x-webtermx,wtx,,5" for the value name.  No data for the value is required.
  5. Reboot the machine.

Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) version 4.0:

  1. Open the properties for the web site in questions.
  2. Select the HTTP Header tab, locate the MIME map section, and click on file types button.
  3. In the File Types dialog box, click on New Type.
  4. Enter .wts for the associated extension.
  5. Enter application/x-webtermx for the content type (MIME).
  6. Click OK to apply the changes and close the File Type dialog box.
  7. Verify that the Registered File Types window lists ".wtx  application/x-webtermx".
  8. Close the properties dialog box.  Please note:  It is not necessary to restart IIS version 4 for the MIME type to take effect unlike IIS version 3.

Please note:  If your web server has a unique procedure for setting the MIME type, and you feel it would benefit others by being listed here, please forward the procedure to technical support.
