Support - WebTerm X - configuring additional client fonts

WebTerm X Frequently Asked Questions

Can I configure Additional Client Fonts?

Additional fonts can be configured by using a font server or by installing the fonts on individual end users' computers.

Use a Font Server:

A font server can be installed on a host computer, and configure that computer with an X font server.  See your UNIX vendor's documentation or one of the many commercially available UNIX references for details about installing a font server, including "X Windows System Administrator Guide" by Mui and Pearce.  Then, start the fonts server.  The standard command to start an X11R5 font server is:

fs -port 7000

The standard command to start an X11R6 font server is:

xfs -port 7100

However, before starting it you should first verify which version of the X font server and which port number you are using.

In the WebTerm X configuration, place the hostname or IP address and port number of the font server in the fields of the Session tab.  Each user's WebTerm X session automatically obtains the necessary fonts as needed from the remote font server.

Install User Fonts in Each User's WebTerm X Fonts Directory:

WebTerm X supports the import of PCF X fonts.  If your X client requires additional X fonts in order to be able to run or display correctly, and you do not have a font server available, you can install additional fonts on each of your user's computers.  Depending upon the user's level of experience with computers you can have them install the fonts.  To install additional PCF fonts, follow these steps:

  1. Locate the font files you want to add to the user's system.  If you are using FTP to download the files from a host system, make sure you use Binary mode to transfer the files.
  2. Put the font files into the user's \WebTermX\XServer\Fonts directory.  You can create a new folder within the Fonts directory, or add them to an existing folder in the Fonts directory.
  3. If you decide to add the fonts to an existing folder within the Fonts directory, delete the fonts.dir file found in that folder.
  4. Restart WebTerm X.
