WebTerm Frequently Asked Questions

How do I change the .wts file association in Windows 95/98, NT and Windows 2000?

In Windows 95/98, NT and Windows 2000 double clicking on a WebTerm file type generally has the following predetermined results:
- Double clicking on a WebTerm .htm file starts the default web browser and loads the .htm file. It will reference the associated .wts file to open a terminal window embedded in a web page.
- Double clicking on a WebTerm .wts file starts the WebTerm Administrator, on systems where it is installed, so that the file can be edited.
However, in Windows 95/98, NT and Windows 2000 you can change the effect of double clicking on a .wts file to that of loading the .wts file driectly in to your browser window. This allows for a "full screen" resizable terminal the size of your browser window instead of haivng a set size terminal window embedded in a web page.
To alter the behavior of the .wts file, you simply change the program associated with the .wts file extension to that of the web browser of choice.
Save a .wts file to the Windows desktop. Please note: A .wts file can be downloaded from a web server by opening it in the web browser and choosing "Save As..." from the browser's file menu.
While holding the Shift key, right click on the .wts icon. Select "Open With..." from the provided menu. Next highlight Choose Program.
In the "Open With..." dialog box, select the program to use to open the .wts file from the list provided.
Choose either Internet Explorer or Netscape Communicator.
Check the box for "Always use this program to open this type of file".
Click the OK button to close the dialog box. Now double click the .wts file, or opening a link to a .wts file will cause the terminal session to open full screen in the browser window.
Please note: This procedure will only work if you have installed the WebTerm Plug-in to your browser. It will not work in Internet Explorer if you have just installed the WebTerm Active X component. When using just the Active X component you need to load the .htm file.
Please note: There is a more elaborate procedure which allows for changing additional characteristics, such as the icon associated with the .wts file. Click Window's Help and type in the search box "To create or modify a file type".
