WebTerm Frequently Asked Questions

Can I run multiple WebTerm sessions simultaneously?

Yes, you can run multiple WebTerm sessions simultaneously.
The WebTerm Plug-in and Active X Control (within a Web browser or ThinTerm) supports multiple emulations and multiple connections simultaneously. This means that you can have several connections open to your UNIX, IBM, and AS/400 hosts at the same time. However, the WebTerm Administrator, which is used to initially create sessions, only supports one emulation and connection at a time.
A single WebTerm Settings file (.WTS or .THN) can be easily configured by the WebTerm Administrator to run multiple sessions. End users use multiple terminal sessions to perform different tasks while they are connected to the same host connection.
Use the following steps to program multiple terminal sessions for a single WebTerm Settings file:
Open a .WTS or .THN file in the WebTerm Administrator and select Web Page from the Session menu. The Web Page Settings window, shown in the figure below displays.

Figure: Web Page Settings Window
Select Enable single WebTerm Settings (WTS) file to run multiple sessions from the Web Page Settings window, and then click OK.
Note: Whenever you open a web page, that has a WebTerm window embedded in it, the browser sends the contents of the .WTS file to WebTerm so that it can display a window. When WebTerm gets a duplicate request (i.e. .WTS data is received that is already being displayed), WebTerm does two things based on how you set the "Enable single WebTerm Settings .WTS file to run multiple sessions" check box:
1. If you DO NOT check this box, WebTerm will assume that the session is already open. The data should be moved to the window from which the new request is coming, and in the old window a message would explain the session has been moved to a different window
2. If you DO check this box, WebTerm simply creates a new session in the new window, and leaves the existing window unaffected.
Note: If you plan on having more then one WebTerm sessions embed in the same Web page, be sure to give each session a unique Session ID.
