Support - eXodus - Unable to complete connection

eXodusFrequently Asked Questions

Client Launch Facility: Unable to complete connection?

eXodus is unable to remotely connect to the specified host.  This error often occurs if the wrong host name or address was entered in the Connection Manager dialog box.  The host is not available (for example shut down) or the host name or address was entered incorrectly.

Solving Client Connection Problems:

When you are trying to perform a remote client launch, there are some tools that eXodus provides to help you get the client running.

  1. Confirm Connections from Settings Menu.

  2. Monitor window.  This provides some diagnostic information that may help you pinpoint the problem.

  3. Monitor the memory in the Memory Info. window.  If the memory fluctuates, you are probably getting a connection.

What to check within the Client Connection Checklist.

  1. Check that your Macintosh is being recognized on the network.

  2. If the remote client launch is not working, try launching a client directly from the host.  This will help verify that your network connection is working.

  3. If you cannot perform a direct client launch, make sure the clients are installed properly.

  4. If you are performing a remote client launch, make sure a remote command processor is installed on your host system.

  5. If you are using DECnet remote command processor and it is assigned to Object 0, make sure the object is enabled for task communications.

  6. Make sure you entered the name of the client correctly in the Connection Manager dialog box.

  7. Make sure you entered the host name correctly.

  8. Make sure you have the DECW$STARTLOGIN script on the host.
