eXodus Frequently Asked Questions

How do I create a log file with eXodus?

Use the Log Clients Command in the settings menu. This writes all communications between the client and eXodus to a log file. This includes requests from the clients, responses, events, and errors from the server. Give the log file a name and location to save it to.
Caution: Log files record all data transferred to and from the host and can become huge in size if discretion is
not used. Start logging right before you expect an error and stop it right after.
To stop logging, choose Log Clients again and the check mark will disappear.
If submitting to Technical Support, be sure to transfer the file using binary mode.
eXodus log files cannot be viewed using a text editor. To view the contents of log files locally, use the FormatR application to convert the internal record structure to text. If you installed FormatR on your Macintosh as part of a custom install, the icon is placed by default in the utilities folder in the eXodus folder. Refer to the "FormatR Application" chapter in the eXodus Reference Guide in the eXodus Reference folder on the CD for instruction on how to use the application. Double clicking the log file starts FormatR.
