Support - eXodus - X client fonts appears bigger

eXodusFrequently Asked Questions

Why does an X client font appear to big in eXodus, yet they are correct size on a workstation?

Please note that most X clients expect high resolution, such as 1280 x 1024.  If your Macintosh does not have a high resolution, you will need to either change the font size of your client or use a virtual screen area.  When displaying a client on a workstation, the resolution of the screen may be 1280 x 1024 or higher.  When displaying the same client on a Macintosh screen with 800 x 600 resolution, the font will appear larger.  There are several solutions you can try:

  • Specify a new font when launching the client, for example: xterm -fn 6xp $$ME$$. Check the
documentation for your X client, to determine the syntax for specifying fonts.
  • Change the resource file for your X client, in either your home directory or in the client's directory. Check
with your system administrator before making changes to resource files as this may affect other users.
  • Check if your client provides a way to adjust the window size and font.  For example, in an xterm window
hold down the Control key and the right mouse button.  Xterm should display a list of 5 or 6 font sizes from which you can select one.

Note that these solutions may or may not be supported by your particular client.  Check with your system administrator or the client's documentation for more information.
