eXodus Frequently Asked Questions

Why do the connections time-out with unable to connect messages?

There are a few ways that you can receive the connection timed out error.
One way is that the X connection protocols REXEC and/or RSH are not running on the host you are connecting to, thus you will get an immediate time out error.
Another way is if you are connecting through a firewall and the ports for X protocol are not open, thus blocking X clients from being launched. Go here to learn about which ports to open for X protocol on firewall software.
Or you receive "Client Launch Facility: Timed out waiting for response. eXodus is unable to remotely connect to the host." from a Sun system.
This alert typically appears when you are trying to connect to a Sun host either with REXEC or RSH remote command processor. Make sure the Host file on the Sun has your Macintosh's IP address and domain name listed.
