eXodus Frequently Asked Questions

What is eXodus' system requirements?

System Requirements:
The eXodus software lets you connect to a host directly over a network or over a modem or terminal server. Depending on the connection you choose, your system must meet certain hardware, network and software requirements.
Hardware Requirements:
a PowerPC, iMac, G3, or G4
At least 8 MB of application memory
If there is not enough application memory available, exodus' capabilities may be limited and unexpected results may occur. If you have more memory available, you may want to increase the preferred application memory. To increase the memory, make sure eXodus is not running , click once on the eXodus application icon, and choose Get Info from the File menu on the desktop (or by typing Command-I). Enter the new memory size in the Preferred Size text box.
To run OpenGL:
A minimum of 32 MB of memory (RAM)
QuickDraw3D 1.6 or later (available with OpenGL for Macintosh installation)
OpenGL is a shared library. when no applications that rely on OpenGL are open the library does not take up memory space (RAM). Once an OpenGL-based application is open, the amount of memory taken up by the shared library does not increase if other OpenGL-based applications are launched. Of course, each application will take up memory according to their size and the complexity.
While an OpenGL application is open, the OpenGL library allocates memory from "temporary memory". This memory shows up in the "About This Computer" window as memory used by the application. when you quit the application, the memory becomes available to the system.
Communication Requirements:
eXodus requires a physical connection to a local area network (LAN) or a modem. Most users of X Windows use Ethernet. Many Macintosh computers have built-in Ethernet. Some Macintosh users also use Token Ring or Local Talk networks.
Software Requirements:
eXodus requires the following software for your Macintosh and host computers.
Macintosh OS version 8.6 or later. CarbonLib 1.2.1 or later.
