eXodus Frequently Asked Questions

How do I start the X window Font Server?

On most systems, where xfs is the X window Font Server, you would type "ps -ef | grep xfs" to determine if the font server is running. If the font server is not running, go to the file /etc/rc.config.d/xfs and ensure that the flag is set to 1.
Also, for CDE, you need to go to /etc/X11/fs/config, and as the last item in the long "catalog" definition, add ",/usr/dt/config/xfonts/C". NO spaces in the whole statement. Then do a "/sbin/init.d/xfs start".
Note: If your Sun or Solaris font server is not working correctly, see the following FAQ:
sun solaris font server
After configuring and starting the font server on the host, go back to eXodus and add the system as a font server:
eXodus Settings: Server Settings: Font Paths: Add Font Server
Enter the font server host name and port (typically either 7000 or 71000) and click the OK button. The eXodus will reset and reference the font server.
