eXodus Frequently Asked Questions

Can eXodus use MWM and other window managers in rootless mode?

MWM and other window managers can not be run in rootless mode. When you use eXodus in rootless mode you are already using the local eXene window manager built into eXodus.  If you would like to use MWM than configure eXodus in either rooted or invisible rooted mode.  Rooted mode provides for a full screen root window.  Invisible rooted mode provides rooted functionality while still allowing easy access to your Macintosh desktop.

If you want better speed and a "motif-style" window, you can configure eXodus for rootless-motif.  It does not have the exact same functionality as MWM due to being built for Mac OS, but it is close.  However, MWM is somewhat unique in that you can run it on the same server as another window manager.  If both window managers are configured for different screens than it will work.  For example, you can configure screen zero as rootless, and screen one as invisible rooted mode and run MWM.  Any display sent to screen zero would be handled by eXene, and any display sent to screen on would then be handled by MWM.
