Press Release

NASHUA, New Hampshire, January 28, 2002 --- Powerlan USA, a wholly owned subsidiary of Powerlan Ltd. (ASX: PWR), announced today that its parent company has released a new product called TunnelMate.  TunnelMate uses standards-based security protocols including Secure Shell to assure that connections between PCs and host systems are private and secure.  Working in tandem with Powerlan’s Connectivity products, TunnelMate provides many additional benefits, including secure X Window connections, and a secure gateway to IBM Mainframes, Midrange, and many other hosts that don’t support Secure Shell.  On Windows-based computers, TunnelMate also seamlessly “Secure Shell-enables” the standard Windows Telnet program, providing Secure Shell services.

“Until now, only power users knew how to take advantage of the best features of the Secure Shell protocol.  With TunnelMate, we have integrated all of our key products and have opened the service to other products and protocols, shielding the user from the underlying complexities of these technologies.  Due to our improvements to this technology, we are already seeing customers choosing TunnelMate solutions instead of VPNs,” states Steve Roche, Chief Technology Officer of Powerlan USA.

When used with WebTerm X (Windows) or eXodus (Macintosh), TunnelMate adds the essential benefits for managing secure X connectivity.  Used in conjunction with WebTerm, TunnelMate gives secure access to vast amounts of legacy applications and data.  By offering support for Direct and Forwarded modes with three key terminal protocols (3270, 5250, and VT), TunnelMate secures the Telnet streams between PCs and remote hosts.  TunnelMate, provides a simple and secure gateway to mainframes, transparently handling the forwarding process to AS/400s and iSeries hosts.

Beyond the X and Terminal emulation empowerment provided in TunnelMate, other major benefits are easily achievable using TunnelMate as a companion with other TCP/IP-based applications.  Because of its unique open architecture, any application or web page can use TunnelMate for Secure Shell client and gateway services.  “We are very excited about the opportunities and interest in integrating TunnelMate with other applications; we’ll be announcing support for new products and technologies regularly” adds Roche.

TunnelMate is available immediately at www.powerlan-usa.com/tunnelmate/ or from your nearest reseller or distributor.  Site and enterprise licensing is also available for volume deployments. The list price is $99, and a special $69 price is available thru June 2002 for licenses purchased electronically.
