POWERLAN USA ANNOUNCES A NEW VERSION OF WEBTERM X - X WINDOW SERVER FOR THE INTRANET, “THE NEXT GENERATION OF EXODUS FOR WINDOWS”.

NASHUA, New Hampshire, December 8, 2000, -- Powerlan USA, a wholly owned subsidiary of Powerlan Ltd. (ASX: PWR), announced today that its Connectivity Products Division has released a new version to its suite of powerful X Window Servers for Microsoft Windows. WebTerm X version 3.0 provides seamless access to X Window applications from within a web browser or functions as a stand-alone X server.

Using a Web-based connectivity product such as WebTerm X product allows mobile and other remote users to access mainframe, and midrange and windows based back-end systems (such as AS/400 and UNIX based) quite inexpensively via the Internet from virtually anywhere. Business partners, suppliers, customers and other trusted trading partners can also access information and applications across an extranet using a Web-to-Host or Thin X solution forming the basis of Business to Business (B2B) solutions.

WebTerm X is available immediately electronically at www.powerlan-usa.com, or from your nearest reseller or distributor.  Site and enterprise licensing is also available for deployments of 25 units or more.  Companies with an alternative X Window Server product installed currently can take advantage of special competitive upgrade pricing.

Ms. Jeanne Pecha, the Lab Coordinator of Florida State University’s Chemistry Lab, says she was asked to implement WebTerm X for an Undergraduate Chemistry Computer Lab.  “In this particular aspect,” Ms. Pecha says,  “we needed our PC’s to communicate with a Sun Enterprise 250 server so that students could use VNMR software to analyze their data.  Their Solaris-based software was complicated and needed specific environmental parameters set. WebTerm X was used in order to get our third party software working properly which saved us a vast amount of time, and gained us seamless connection from our PC’s and windows environment to the Sun host.”
